I didn't realize this was a modern re-telling of the classic Red Riding Hood fairytale. Considering that the Grimm brothers original is pretty dark, I think Jacob and Wilhelm would have approved. What a thrill I had when I realised where it was going... The pace was just right; one moment my mind questioned, "Doesn't her mother know what happened to her?" and then the explanation that she never told anyone, hits the page. The suspense builds really well - I could feel the fear at the climax when they are in the tunnel. The ending was a pleasant surprise.I would recommend this to anyone who is a lover of this genre.
That said, the book is about a girl who is raped, but it is set at age 9 - 18 on Amazon. I do not think a 9 year old would be mature enough to understand the nuances of the story. I also would have loved for it to have been longer...

The Night Howls A Short Story edition by Ann Wright Children eBooks Reviews
This was a good book but a little short maybe to short great to reading with my friends but make it longer great!
Different. Had a red riding hood feel to it. Nice touch using the wolves as a gang. A quick enjoyable read
A gem of a short read. Silver didn't know about the danger but all that changed. She is ready, she is not alone, and must protect her younger sister.
This was a highly enjoyable read. I loved the way the author blended aspects of the Red Riding Hood fable with modern elements into a timeless pastiche that felt organic and gritty and true. Bravo!
